Venice Film Fest 2010: Skolimowski's thriller Essential Killing in Competition

August 9, 2010–The 2010 edition of the Venice Film Festival has added Polish director Jerzy Skolimowski's provocative thriller "Essential Killing," starring Vincent Gallo as a Taliban insurgent, to its competition roster.  "Essential" is the tale of an Afghan man captured by American forces in Kabul, who finds himself transported to a nameless European country and manages to escape.

 

 

 

Venice Film Fest 2010: Panahi's new film makes world premiere

Jafar Panahi is expected to open the 7th edition of Giornate degli Autori-Venice Days in Venice during the 67th Mostra Internazionale d'Arte Cinematografica (September 1-11, 2010). 

Giornate degli Autori / Venice Days will host the World Premiere of Jafar Panahi's latest work, The Accordion, produced by ART for The World as part of the new film project "THEN AND NOW, Beyond Borders and Differences" based on article 18 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights: "Everybody has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion".

Outfest announces 2010 award winners

July 18, 2010 – Outfest the Los Angeles-based nonprofit organization dedicated showcasing lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) media, has announced the award winners of its 28th Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Film Festival. 

 

Social Network (2010): World Premiere at N.Y. Film Fest

July 8, 2010 – The Film Society of Lincoln Center announced today that David Fincher’s The Social Network has been selected as the Opening Night film for their upcoming 48th Annual New York Film Festival, kicking off at Alice Tully Hall on Friday September 24th. Directed by Fincher from a screenplay by Aaron Sorkin, The Social Networkstars Jesse Eisenberg, Andrew Garfield, and Justin Timberlake. The film is set to be released by Sony Pictures Entertainment on October 1, 2010. The New York Film Festival runs September 24th – October 10th, 2010.
