May 9, 2009–Paramount's revitalizing of the sci-fi classic franchise “Star Trek” played well beyond its core Trekkie crowd Friday, grossing $31 million, thus becoming the studio's second highest opening day ever at the box office for a live-action film.

May 7, 2009–De Niro and and Edward Norton will star in the psychological thriller “Stone,” to be helmed by John Curran.  Angus MacLachlan (“Junebug”) penned the screenplay about a correctional officer (De Niro) who is seduced by the wife of a convicted arsonist (Norton) up for parole.

Labor Movie Night presented by Screen Actors Guild presents the Oscar-winning film Norma Rae. This marks the 30th anniversary of Norma Rae, and SAG will screen the film in support of the Employee Free Choice legislation, currently before the U.S. Congress, which is seen as the single most important bill to the American worker in the last 30 years.

April 17. 2009–Writer-director Sofia Coppola, who shot “Lost in Translation” at the Park Hyatt in Tokyo, will set her next film at the iconic Chateau Marmont in Hollywood. Stephen Dorff and Elle Fanning will star in the Focus Features serio comedy “Somewhere,” which Coppola wrote.

April 17, 2009–Fox Searchlight has acquired screen rights to Jen Sacks' “Nice,” to be developed as a star vehicle for Reese Witherspoon.  Ben Queen will adapt the darkly humorous novel.
