July 17, 2009–Warner has hired Matt Manfredi and Phil Hay to write “Staycation,” a film that Todd Phillips will produce through his Green Hat Films banner.

July 15, 2009–Warner’s “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince,” directed by Davis Yates, scored the biggest midnight gross of all-time in earning $22.2 million as it played in 3,003 runs at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday.

July 13, 2009–Paramount is teaming with Joe Roth to pick up Mattel's “Max Steel” as another action figure it wants to play with on the bigscreen.  “Max Steel” will be the first picture Mattel has set up at Paramount since it began aggressively looking to turn its toys into features.

July 10, 2009–Warner and DC Comics have won the case filed by the heirs of “Superman” co-creator Jerome Siegel.  In a decision announced Wednesday, U.S. Judge District Court Judge Stephen G. Larson found that the license fees the studio paid to corporate sibling DC Comics didn't represent “sweetheart” deals as they weren't below fair market value.

July 5, 2009–Fox's 3-D animated “Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs” scored the biggest international opening of all time for an animated title.  Domestically, it tied with Paramount's “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” for No. 1 at the box-office over the July 4 weekend.
