July 23, 2007–John August's debut “The Nines” is among seven first works that will bow in competition at the upcoming Venice Film Festival's Critics' Week.

July 18, 2007–The 32nd Toronto International Film Festival will show Paolo Barzman's Emotional Arithmetic as a Closing Night Gala Presentation. Based on Matt Cohen's eponymous novel and adapted for the screen by Jefferson Lewis and Barzman, Emotional Arithmetic is a story of redemption, healing and reconciliation ignited by the reunion of three Holocaust survivors. The film stars Susan Sarandon, Christopher Plummer, Gabriel Byrne, Roy Dupuis, and Max von Sydow.

July 6, 2007–The Venice Film Festival has selected Chinese actioner “Blood Brothers” by first-timer Alexi Tan as the closer for its upcoming 64th edition. Produced by Terence Chang's Lions Rock Prods. and John Woo, Shanghai-set crimer is the first Chinese title from Lions Rock, which Chang launched in 1997 to make Hollywood movies.

Cannes Film Festival 1994–For the fourth time over the last six years, the Cannes Film Festival conferred its top award, the Palme d'Or, on an American picture. Mind you, not just an ordinary American picture, but one described by French critics as “lowlife serenade”. The winner, Quentin Tarantino's energetic, showy Pulp Fiction was described by one French critic as “the American Graffiti of crime movies.”

June 16, 2007–Richard Linklater will receive the second annual Prix Chateauneuf at the 24th Avignon Film Festival, which runs June 21-24.
Linklater's early film “Slcakers” was shown there some 15 years ago.
