Horror maestro David Cronenberg’s newest film, The Shrouds, might be his “most personal” movie to date, says star Diane Kruger.
Per Variety, Kruger believes Cronenberg’s latest movie, which she’s starring in alongside Vincent Cassel, is a deeply personal project for the filmmaker given the subject matter.
“We just finished filming it,” she said. “I think it might be his most personal film, because it talks about him and the passing of his wife.”
“I was very emotional making it, because I knew it was so close to him and he was a little bit detached because of it. I could feel him being so vulnerable,” Kruger also said at the Zurich Film Festival. “I hope it’s going to be great.”
According to a previous report from Deadline, Cassel plays Karsh, a businessman who owns a cemetery and whose wife has passed away. Struggling with the loss, Karsh builds a device that allows people to watch their deceased family members decompose in real time.
Kruger is playing three different roles in The Shrouds, which also stars Guy Pearce and Sandrine Holt.
Cronenberg is known for making a number of popular sci-fi horror films, including 1981’s Scanners, 1983’s Videodrome, 1986’s The Fly, and many more. His most recent release was 2022’s Crimes of the Future, which premiered at the Cannes Film Fest and starred Viggo Mortensen, Léa Seydoux, and Kristen Stewart.
A release date for The Shrouds has not yet been set.
