Susan Seidelman’s 2013 comedy, The Hot Flashes, follows a group of offbeat women–including Brooke Shields, Daryl Hannah and Wanda Sykes–who set out to prove expectations wrong by forming a basketball team made up of middle-aged females.

Like other Seidelman’s films, The Hot Flashes is a high-concept indie, a feature that walks a fine line between being smart and silly, significant and derivative, serious and soapy.
Panned by most critics, the movie was a box office flop.
