Directors: Nichols, Jeff–Career Disruptions

Arkansas native Jeff Nichols rose steadily into the ranks of one of the most interesting filmmakers.

After getting his start with the low-budgeted, “Shotgun Stories” (2007), his big break came with the psychological drama “Take Shelter” (2011) with Michael Shannon and Jessica Chastain.

He then helmed the coming of age drama “Mud” (2012) with Matthew McConaughey, which competed at the Cannes Film Festival.

In 2016, he made the sci-fi “Midnight Special” and the romantic biopic “Loving,” which earned Ruth Negga an Oscar nomination for best actress.
