Tom Ford had been one of the world’s top fashion designers for nearly two decades when he switched gears in 2009 and directed “A Single Man,” based on the Christopher Isherwood novel.
Colin Firth was Oscar-nominated for his starring role in the sensitive drama, one of many accolades Ford’s directorial debut received. His second film, 2016’s “Nocturnal Animals,” wasn’t as well received despite a top-flight cast including Jake Gyllenhaal and Amy Adams.
Ford returned to fashion, designing Daniel Craig’s suits for the last three James Bond movies.
He owns a fashion company to run, recently released a book about his films, and a young son to raise.
