Humphrey Bogart’s War Films in the 1950s

Chain Lightning (Warner, 1950):

Set in 1943, Bogart was in military uniform, as Matt Brennan, completing a tour of duty over Europe as a bomber pilot.

He has a romance with a Red Cross woman (Eleanor Parker), which is interrupted when he is ordered home after his 25th mission.

After the war. he works as a barnstorming pilot. He is hired later as a test pilot for a new jet that the manufacture hoes to sell to the Air Force.

Happy ending: when delves with the safety of his plane.

Left Hand of Gun (Fox, 1958):

Bogart as Jim Carmody, American flyer forced down in China during WWII; military adviser to a Chinese war lord, who saved him from his wrecked plane.

Happy Ending: romance with Gene Tierney.
