French director Louis Malle (1932-1995), who relocated to Hollywood in the late 1970s, was nominated for three Oscars.
In 1971, he received a screenplay nomination for the French comedy of manners, Murmur of the Heart.
In 1981, Malle was nominated for Best Director OscarĀ for Atlantic City, which was also nominated for the Best Picture.
In 1987, Malle, now back in France, received a screenplay nomination forĀ the semi-autobiographical, Au Revoir, Les Enfants.
