Born October 10, 1926 in Long Beach, New York; died in 1997.

Richard Jaeckel began his career as a delivery boy at 20th CenturyFox. From 1943, he played a mixed variety of screen roles–combat cowards, heavies, pugnacious heroes, misguided youths, and even some romantic parts.

He was nominated for a best supporting actor Oscar for “Sometimes a Great Notion” (aka “Never Give an Inch”) (1971).

Paul Newman directed and starred in this film, based on a Ken Kesey novel about a logging family in Oregon. The film was also nominated for Best Song.

The Supporting Actor winner was another Hollywood vet, Ben Johnson, for Peter Bogdanovich's “The Last Picture Show.”
