In the ninth year of the competitive category of the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar, the winner was Italian comedy, Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow by Vittorio De Sica.
The winner of the Best Foreign Language Film from the New York Film Critics Circle was Philippe de Broca’s French comedy, The Man from Rio.
The five nominees were:
Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow, Italy (winner)
Raven’s End, Sweden
Sallah, Israel
The Umbrellas of Cherbourg. France
Woman in the Dunes, Japana
Note:
Sallah was the first Israeli feature to be nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film.
