Nov 1, 2006–Film editor Dede Allen will be honored by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences in New York on November 7.
The night will highlight her career through film clips and feature a conversation with Allen, directors Sidney Lumet and Arthur Penn and film editors Jerry Greenberg, Richard Marks and Craig McKay.
Allen began nearly 50 years ago as a messenger at Columbia Pictures. She edited her first pic, Robert Wise’s “Odds Against Tomorrow,” in 1959.
In 1967, she edited Penn’s “Bonnie and Clyde.” Allen went on to receive Oscar Award nominations for her work on “Dog Day Afternoon,” “Reds” (shared with McKay) and “Wonder Boys.”
The salute to Allen, an Academy members-only event, will be hosted by Peter Travers, senior film editor at Rolling Stone.
