Will Rogers was the most popular star during the early Depression era. Rogers was much more than a movie star, he was a folk hero, an icon. His l935 untimely death in an aircrash terminated his career at its height.

February, 2006–The actor Pat Morita, best known as the wise Mr. Miyagi in The Karate Kid, is dead at 73. His role in the 1984 Karate Kid film defined his career. As Kesuke Miyagi, the mentor to Ralph Macchio's Daniel, he taught karate while trying to catch flies with chopsticks and offering such advice as “wax on, wax off” to help Daniel improve his karate hand movements while doing his chores.

Scott, Garrett: Documentarian Dies at 37

L.A. March 3, 2006–Documentary filmmaker Garrett Scott, an Independent Spirit Awards nominee for “Occupation: Dreamland,” a film he co-directed with Ian Olds, died an accidental death yesterday in California. He was 37.
