Four creators are responsible for “Shrek the Third”: Writer-director Chris Miller, co-director Ramu Hui, producer-writer Aron Warner, and executive producer-story-writer Andrew Adamson.

Barry Nelson, MGM contract player during the 1940s who later had theater career and was the first actor to play James Bond on screen, has died.

Adrienne Shelly is the gifted director-screenwriter of “Waitress,” in which she also plays the role of Dawn. Until her death in New York in 2006 at the age of forty, Shelly was living a dual life as a mother and a filmmaker. An accomplished actress, she starred in some twenty independent films, including Hal Hartley's best features, “The Unbelievable Truth” and “Trust.”

In 2001, “No Man's Land” played in competition at the Cannes Film Festival and later won the Best Foreign-Language Oscar against tough competition; the popular French entry “Amelie” was expected to win.

Fred Zinnemann's centennial is next week (he was born in Vienna April 29, 2007), but I will not be surprised if the centennary goes completely unremarked (and unnoticed) by critics and cineastes. It's hard to think of another director who had fallen so quickly from grace as Zinnemann, despite promising and even brilliant beginnings.
