July 24, 2007–Laszlo Kovacs, the cinematographer who lensed such seminal films as “Easy Rider” and popular pictures like “Ghostbusters” died Saturday in his sleep in Beverly Hills. He was 74.

Edward Yang, the seminal filmmaker from Taipei, died in June of cancer. I met him twice, in Cannes Festival in 1994, and in 2000, as presdient of the Los Angeles Film Critics Association, which honored “Yi Yi,” his most accessible work, as Best Foreign-Language Film.
