Eighteen legendary Republic Pictures stars unveiled the new Republic Pictures sign on Wednesday, August 18, 2010 at CBS Studio Center on the Western Walk of Fame. This event kicks-off a month long commemoration of Republic Pictures 75th Anniversary coordinated by the Studio City Neighborhood Council’s Cultural Affairs Committee. The new Republic Pictures sign will be affixed to the CBS Studio Center building above the former gate entrance at Carpenter Avenue.

Other local events planned for the 75th anniversary of Republic Pictures include:

· On Wednesday, September 15, 2010 the Egyptian Theatre presents Republic Pictures films and trailers with live “vaudeville” entertainment. 7:30 P.M. at 6712 Hollywood Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90028.

I am baffled by the big-screen career of Jennifer Aniston, the amiable performer still best-known for her smash TV series "Friends."  My review of "The Switch" and other Aniston pictures have evoked and provoked strong reactions from readers, ranging from complete dismissal of her star stature to mild opinions as to her talent to the few who thought she still has chance to prove herself.

August 18, 2010–The Screen Actors Guild (SAG) will honor vet actor and Oscar-winner Ernest Borgnine, who is 93, with its life achievement award. SAG made the announcement Wednesday, noting that Borgnine's performed in more than 200 motion pictures, five TV series and dozens of television films.

Stephen Frears is the director of "Tamara Drewe," starring Gemma Arterton. The film, which is an adaptation of the famous Tamara Drewe character as well as a graphic novel, is being released October 8 by Sony Pictures Classics.
