The late Spanish director Luis Bunuel (1900-1983) was undoubtedly one of most important and innovative filmmakers in the world. Yet over the past six or seven years, while teaching film courses at major schools across the country (UCLA, Columbia, NYU), I was disappointed to find out that few students (graduate included) are familiar with Bunuel’s rich oeuvre, produced in a career spanning fifty years and three continents.
