Dieterle’s best-known films include The Story of Louis Pasteur and The Hunchback of Notre Dame, The Life of Emile Zola which won the 1937 Best Picture Oscar, The Devil and Daniel Webster.

Payne is a two-time winner of the Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar, and a three-time nominee of the Best Director Oscar.

Asked if he minded not even being nominated for the Best Director Oscar for Driving Miss Daisy, Beresford said: “No, not at all. I didn’t think it was that well directed. It was very well written. When the writing’s that good, you’ve really just got to set the camera up and photograph it.”

Benton won the Oscar Awards for Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Director for Kramer vs. Kramer (1979) and Best Original Screenplay for Places in the Heart (1984).
