Fred Zinnemann's centennial is next week (he was born in Vienna April 29, 2007), but I will not be surprised if the centennary goes completely unremarked (and unnoticed) by critics and cineastes. It's hard to think of another director who had fallen so quickly from grace as Zinnemann, despite promising and even brilliant beginnings.
