Rock of Ages: New Line's New Musical

Dec 10, 2008–New Line has won an auction for screen rights to “Rock of Ages,” a stage musical using 1980s rock anthems. Chris D'Arienzo, who wrote the book for the Off Broadway musical, will write the screenplay and direct the film.   It becomes the second big musical project for New Line, which is developing a sequel to the smash hit, “Hairspray.”

Resident, The: ,Thriller Starring Hilary Swank

Hilary Swank will star in “The Resident,” a thriller helmed by Antti J. Jokinen, who will make his feature directing debut from a script he co-wrote with Robert Orr. Erin Cressida Wilson (“Secretray”) recently turned in a rewrite.  Swank will play a doctor who moves into a Brooklyn loft. Becoming suspicious that she's not alone in her new home, she discovers her landlord is a stalker.

Host, The: Verbinski Remake of South Korean Thriller

Nov 19, 2008–Universal and Gore Verbinski will remake the 2006 Bong Joon-ho's Korean thriller “The Host,” with commercials director Fredrik Bond making his feature helming debut and Mark Poirier (“Smart People”) as scripter.

Quantum of Solace: Most Commercial Bond Ever

Nov 16, 2008–Sony and MGM¬ís 22nd James Bond adventure “Quantum of Solace” opened to $70.4 million this weekend. The all-time best opening ever for the Bond franchise, “Quantum” opened
approximately $23 million stronger than the previous top Bond debut in North America, 2002¬ís “Die Another Day,” which debuted with $47.1 million.

Pinocchio: Guillermo Del Toro's Darker Stop-Motion Version
