May 25, 2008–French director Laurent Cantet proved that last is certainly not least when his docu-like fictional feature, “The Class,” won the coveted Palme d'Or after screening on the last day of the Festival de Cannes. The win was the first Palme d'Or for a French title since 1987.

May 25, 2008–Laurent Cantet's “The Class” (“Entre Les Murs,” which literally translates into “Between the Walls”) won the Palme d'Or as the 2008 Cannes Film Festival came to an end tonight. The movie is based on the semi-authobiographical novel by Francois Begaudeau (a former critic for Cahiers du Cinema) about his experiences as a literature teacher in a Parisian inner city middle school.
