First look at Inception.

Despite pressures from Warner, Christopher Nolan decided to take a break from the “Batman” franchise after the huge success of “The Dark Knight” in order to write and direct a more personal film, described by him deliberately vaguely as a “contemporary sci-fi actioner set within the architecture of the mind.”

A veil of mystery and secrecy surrounds the production, and the ensemble has been instructed not to talk about the plot.  Even so, rumors abound…..

Is there an audience out there for a low budget indie that's light, amateurish (in the positive and negative sense of the term), and meandering, but still is a personal work?  Overture will find out when it platforms the Sundance Fest film August 14, 2009.

This is the case of “Paper Heart,” an intermittently charming indie, offering a quirky, offbeat look at the many faces of “true love.”  The film is directed by first-timer Nick Jasenovec, who co-wrote the scenario with Charlyne Yi, who also exec-produced and co-wrote the music with actor Michael Cera, her real-life boyfriend and collaborator.  

There are still interesting stories to be told about World War II.  Ole Christian Madsen's WWII thriller “Flame & Citron, was a commercial hit in Denmark and played at the 2008 Telluride and Toronto film festivals, where it was well-received. 

 

The Danish movie opened on July 31 in N.Y. and will bow August 14 in L.A., with a national release to follow. It's also be available nationwide on IFC Films’ video on demand (VOD) platform.

 

Directed by Nick Jasenovec, “Paper Heart” was co-written by Jasenovec and Charlyne Yi.  The offbeat romantic comedy, starring Charlyne Yi and Michael Cera (real-life boyfriend, who plays himself), premiered at the 2009 Sundance Film fest and wll be released by Overture August 7, 2009. 

 

Long fascinated by the intangible idea of love – and fundamentally not believing in “love at first sight” or any of that “Julia Roberts/English Patient /sobbing-in-the-rain stuff,” Charlyne Yi had always dreamt of making a documentary about the subject.  She knew “true love” was something everybody was searching for, so it was great subject matter.
